{"id":1394,"date":"2014-05-27T06:58:43","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T06:58:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annetarsia.com\/?p=1394"},"modified":"2014-05-27T17:21:38","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T17:21:38","slug":"annetarsia-tips-for-bold-move","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/2014\/05\/annetarsia-tips-for-bold-move\/","title":{"rendered":"Annetarsia tips for a &#8220;Bold Move&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/bold-move\">&#8220;Bold Move&#8221;<\/a> is almost ready for blocking!\u00a0 Here are some Annetarsia tricks that I used to make the knitting easier.\u00a0 If you are making the Medium size (38&#8243; hip measurement), using Size 5US needles, and are close to the stitch and row gauge stated in the pattern, then my numbers for vertical strand length will likely work for you.<\/p>\n<p>I calculated the vertical strand length by measuring the Yarn Gauge of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/yarns\/library\/the-plucky-knitter-traveler-sport\">Plucky Knitter Traveler Sport<\/a> used as the MC.\u00a0 The vertical strands are actually done with Primo Fingering, which\u00a0 has a smaller Yarn gauge.\u00a0 But I round up in every step, so I did the Yarn Gauge swatch with the larger (Sport) yarn.\u00a0 Yarn gauge is something I teach in classes (there might still be space in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knittinguniverse.com\/Midwest\">Stitches MidWest<\/a> class!), and it will be in <a href=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/book\/\">&#8220;Annetarsia Knits&#8221;,<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n<p>My Yarn gauge for Traveler Sport is .53.\u00a0 I used this number to calculate the yardage used for all 32 butterflies needed.\u00a0 Here are my suggested lengths, rounded up to the nearest 1\/4 yd.\u00a0 You will need 2 of each length, one for each side of the skirt.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 1.75 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2.\u00a0 2 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3.\u00a0 2.5 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4.\u00a0 2.75 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5.\u00a0 3.25 yd \u00a0\u00a0 6.\u00a0 3.5\u00a0 yd \u00a0\u00a0 7.\u00a0 3.75\u00a0 yd \u00a0\u00a0 8.\u00a0 4.25 yd<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 4.5 yd\u00a0 \u00a0 10.\u00a0 5\u00a0yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 11. 5.25 yd\u00a0\u00a0 12.\u00a0 5.75\u00a0\u00a0yd\u00a0\u00a0 13.\u00a0 6 yd\u00a0\u00a0 14.\u00a0 6.25\u00a0yd\u00a0\u00a0 15.\u00a0 6.75\u00a0yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 16.\u00a0 7 yd<\/p>\n<p>In order to avoid end at the hem, I cut a length for 2 strands at a time, then knit from the middle.\u00a0 This means I only cut 16 pieces, not 32!\u00a0 I doubled the number of the longest strand of the pair (remember, you always round up!).\u00a0 So I had 2 each of the following 8 lengths:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 4 yd\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 2.\u00a0 5.5 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3.\u00a0 7 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4.\u00a0 8.5 yd.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5.\u00a0 10 yd\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 6.\u00a0 11.5 yd\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 7.\u00a0 12.5 yd\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 8.\u00a0 14 yd<\/p>\n<p>Then I started on Row 1, knitting in the middle of each strand.\u00a0 I ended up with a little extra yarn in a few spots, but using the varying lengths greatly reduced the weight of the project and made the knitting easier.<\/p>\n<p>A little time spent in Yarn prep can pay big dividends.\u00a0 My measuring more exact lengths of yarn needed, I simplified the knitting, and reduced yarn waste.\u00a0 Good things!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1404\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1404\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_1712.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1404\" src=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/IMG_1712-300x238.jpg\" alt=\"This is a close-up view of the hem.
