Recently I heard from Chuck Wilmesher of Skacel Yarns, about an exciting fund-raiser for the non-profit organization, Knitted Knockers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chuck met Barb Demorest about 6 months ago, and\u00a0 was immediately captivated by her amazing energy and heartfelt story.\u00a0 She is a breast cancer survivor whose life was changed when her dear friend knitted her a breast prosthetic after her mastectomy. Since that time, Barb has made it her life\u2019s mission to send Knitted Knockers to all women who request them.\u00a0 Barb formed a non-profit organization that promotes the use, making, and delivery of these light weight breast replacements to women who have had mastectomies in<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\u00a0Running this organization takes a lot of volunteer knitters to make the knockers, and it also takes a lot of money to ship the knockers to their recipients.\u00a0 (There is no cost to the recipient whatsoever.)\u00a0\u00a0 XRX\/Stitches has graciously agreed to allow the display and auction of knockers made by teachers of Stitches West \u2013 at this February\u2019s Stitches West.\u00a0\u00a0 These will not actually be \u201cworn,\u201d but these will be displayed and auctioned off to raise awareness of the organization and to raise funds for them.\u00a0 Chuck sent me the basic knocker pattern with assorted yarn so that I could make mine with Annetarsia ITR (in-the-round).\u00a0 I couldn’t stop with one or two, because I wanted to try different color combinations.\u00a0 So I knit until I ran out of yarn, and it was a lot of fun.<\/div>\n

Barb will have a booth at Stitches West, and she will be speaking at the Student Banquet on Saturday evening.\u00a0 The latest word is that Skacel will be auctioning the Designer Knitted Knockers on eBay, so I will keep you posted on that.<\/div>\n
