{"id":672,"date":"2013-10-18T23:59:09","date_gmt":"2013-10-18T23:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annetarsia.com\/?p=672"},"modified":"2013-10-18T23:59:09","modified_gmt":"2013-10-18T23:59:09","slug":"dyeing-to-knit-in-vermont","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/2013\/10\/dyeing-to-knit-in-vermont\/","title":{"rendered":"Dyeing to Knit in Vermont"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I feel as though I haven&#8217;t stopped moving since the Marathon!\u00a0 A few days later I was on a plane for Vermont, where Cheryl Potter and Donna Druchunas hosted a series of &#8220;Dyeing to Knit&#8221; retreats.\u00a0 It was great fun, and I learned a lot.<a href=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hand-dyed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-662\" alt=\"hand-dyed\" src=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/hand-dyed.jpg\" width=\"3264\" height=\"2448\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 The participants were very knowledgeable, and I felt a bit a fish out of water in the dyeing class, but I hung in there and learned a lot by listening to everyone and watching them.\u00a0 I dyed two skeins myself.\u00a0 The blue\/green one is superwash merino sock yarn, and was the first one I dyed.\u00a0 I realized when I was done that I had chosen colors that looked a lot like the Dreaming of Shetland colorway!\u00a0 So, for the second attempt, 100% alpaca yarn, I deliberately went in a different direction.\u00a0 As with everything, dyeing is pretty easy on a basic level.\u00a0 Dye, meet fiber.\u00a0 But if you want something in particular, it gets complex really fast.\u00a0 And, there are a lot of different dye processes.\u00a0 You have to pick and choose carefully to get beautiful results.\u00a0 There were some very talented people doing great stuff.\u00a0 I was just happy to emerge with something usable!<\/p>\n<p>Donna was teaching Lithuanian knitting, but she let me come in and share Annetarsia in the round with her classes.\u00a0 I shared some samples from Annetarsia Knits, and they got to see a first printed version.\u00a0 I am sure that they were being polite, but their enthusiastic reaction was very welcome.<\/p>\n<p>While we were busy talking, listening and learning, we also knit!\u00a0 I took three projects with me, and made good progress on all of them.\u00a0 Donna had to lend me a needle for the body of the Monomania sweater, because I finished both sleeves.\u00a0 I also got to see all of the projects other participants were working on, which was lots of fun.<\/p>\n<p>Vermont was beautiful, warm and friendly, but before I knew it, it was time to start the long trek home.\u00a0 Then I had to face the enormous pile of stuff on my desk from the days I was away, and I have been playing catch-up all week.\u00a0 When I am home, working on the computer, the cats have been staying close.\u00a0 They are happy that Mama is home.<a href=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/happy-kitties-e1382139089603.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-670\" alt=\"happy kitties\" src=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/happy-kitties-e1382139089603.jpg\" width=\"2448\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Donna gave me some beautiful and thoughtful presents to remind me of the trip.\u00a0 Jedi really likes the alpaca, and tried to steal it out of the bag!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_663\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-663\" style=\"width: 2448px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/presents-e1382138391953.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-663\" alt=\"Clockwise from bottom left: Vermont alpaca, hand-painted coasters, Lithuanian chocolate and tea, a journal, and yummy sock yarn!\" src=\"https:\/\/bartonriveryarn.com\/annetarsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/presents-e1382138391953.jpg\" width=\"2448\" height=\"3264\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-663\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clockwise from bottom left: Vermont alpaca, hand-painted coasters, Lithuanian chocolate and tea, a journal, and yummy sock yarn!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I feel as though I haven&#8217;t stopped moving since the Marathon!\u00a0 A few days later I was on a plane for Vermont, where Cheryl Potter and Donna Druchunas hosted a series of &#8220;Dyeing to Knit&#8221;
