Europa Shawl Pattern

Centre section is worked first and begun with a provisional cast-on. The first side is worked continuing from the centre. After the first side is bound off, the provisional cast-on is removed, the stitches placed on a needle, and the second side is worked the same as the first. Some sections are worked over a background of garter stitch, while other sections are worked over a background of stocking stitch, as they are worked traditionally in different parts of Europe. Some patterns have yarnovers and decreases on both RS and WS rows, while others have plain WS rows which may be either knitted or purled.
