It’s the time of year when we all have to clear out the cobwebs in our brains. I’ve been ripping down wallpaper in my house and getting ready for painting, my husband has been cleaning up the yard and porches, and it’s time to clean closets and get out the spring clothes. My friend and coach, Cynthia Morris of Original Impulse recently sent out a newsletter about creative spring cleaning and suggested that artists, writers, and other creative types take a look at the cobwebs that may have gathered in our business over the winter.
Here are my responses:
1. What project(s) need to be finished?
- Stories in Stitches 1 launch
- Stitch-n-Sprouts TNNA patterns
- Lithuanian book
2. What project(s) need to be released so you can move forward?
- New ways to market old things
- Working with big companies
- Stop looking back
3. What needs to be cleared out of your writing or art space to have room for next projects?
- Organize my library
- Remodel classroom
4. What system(s) need to be installed or upgraded to help you move forward?
- Pattern & publishing automation
- Starting earlier so there’s no deadline crunch
- Admin Mondays!
5. What belief needs to be reframed or released to honor your creative impulse?
- I need other people’s help and ideas to grow my business
- I need to work with big companies to make money
- It’s too hard to make a living from knitting-related work alone
6. What habit needs to be released or revamped to make room for creating?
- Not exercising!
- I need to walk every day, also to have time to think and clear my mind
That’s it, I needed to think about this, and getting this all written down felt great. I can’t wait to move forward into spring and summer with renewed energy. I love this time of year.
Spring is the time to reflect and renew our lives. We all have different ways of “cleaning out closets”, that allow us to relax, and create. This is what fuels the creative mind. Constant go and stress is debilitating to creativity!
Learning to let go is pretty good for any mind!
Interesting list. Somethings to mull over.

This is great, Donna! It is helpful to do a mental spring cleaning. I really like your point: “Stop looking back”.
I do hope you get the daily walk routine going. Every time I’ve done that it’s been incredibly amazing.
Thanks for doing this and for mentioning the article I wrote in my newsletter, Impulses.
