New Class Alert for VKL Seattle. Early Bird pricing ends March 8!

It’s been a crazy few months of non-stop work.  Happy Valley Vision Source has been hopping, and keeping us all busy.  Also, I’ve started to teach knitting virtually again, and have my first in-person teaching events planned for April.  I’ve been updating all of my classes so that they can be taught virtually or in-person, […]

Checking in: Gramercy Park progress

It’s been a very busy few weeks.  I taught for VKL in May, and offered a new class for my Stripe series: the search for a Jogless Jog.  Teaching a class for the first time is always stressful, and I worked really hard in preparation.  All of the classes went well, the students were just […]

Gramercy Park progress: starting the back and doing ONE MORE swatch

I started knitting the back, and it is progressing very well.  However, I had this niggling worry while knitting that I needed to do one more swatch.  You see, I really believe in swatching for a project the way you plan to knit it: the same yarn, needles, stitch pattern.  When I swatched for this […]

Gramercy Park KAL – time to Cast On!

I’ll be honest.  The reason I signed up for the Gramercy Park Video KAL was that Patty Lyons, the designer, mentioned a super-stretchy CO method for lace.  I am a sucker for learning new ways to cast-on for projects. The fiddlier, the better.  When I swatch new yarn just to see what it looks like […]

Underwood is blocked, and a perfect fit!

Today, I tried on my blocked sweater, and my version of  Underwood is perfection.  It fits like a soft, warm glove and honestly, I still haven’t taken it off.  I love this sweater!  Here are photos of me wearing it, and close-ups of the shoulder.  Notice that the shoulder seam fits exactly wear it should.  […]

Underwood finished! Time to block….

I finished the second sleeve on Underwood this morning.  The Cloudborn Highland DK yarn is 100% natural wool, so I was able to split-splice when joining new balls of yarn. This left only a handful of ends to bury.  The sweater was knit in one piece, so no seaming.  This meant that right off the […]

Gramercy Park Video Class – swatching exercise

Patty Lyons is a brilliant knitting teacher, designer and communicator, one of the hardest working people that I know, and I am grateful to say that she is my friend.  We have bonded over our love of musical theater and our constant search for how to be better teachers and better communicators.  We are actually […]

Underwood sweater: Finished the body, and one set-in sleeve cap

unblocked sweater body, 3 inches longer than the pattern calls for, to allow for expected shrinkage.

I’ve finished the body for “Underwood”, and I couldn’t be happier.  The length is 3 in. too long, according to the pattern for my size.  This means that when the sweater shrinks 3 inches in blocking, it should fit perfectly.  I love this yarn for the sweater, and the color.  The reason I am knitting […]

Sock Knitting: Vogue Knitting Book 1939 pattern

Here is the post for those who attended “Knitting Through Time” at VKL to ask questions and share comments.  I’d love to know what publications have influenced YOU during the time you have been knitting, and what your favorite resources are.  Don’t be shy, there are no wrong opinions.  We all learn and explore […]

Craftsy/Bluprint ending? So many feelings….

Friday, May 22nd, an e-mail arrived with the force of a bomb.  John Levisay, CEO of Bluprint (formerly Craftsy) sent instructors notice that NBC/Universal was going to be closing the platform over the next few months.  I have lots of feelings about this, and it is going to be difficult to process.  I have the […]
